The Better Living Challenge, a World Design Capital Cape Town 2014 project, is a design competition that aims to provide a platform to develop and showcase affordable, innovative, sustainable, and green solutions, which will improve the homes of those living in low-income communities in South Africa.
Dr. Jaisheila Rajput, CEO of TOMA-Now joined the Selection Panel in June this year. The first stage of judging in this competition: 47 people were invited to form this panel. This group, a wide cross-section of business and sustainability specialists, architects, entrepreneurs and engineers reviewed 130 entries submitted to the competition. Three separate judges scored each entry and then all entries were evaluated through a discussion process – finally arriving at 23 finalists and 33 exhibitors. All these entries will be showcased in an exhibition in October this year. The public will be able to vote for the winners; these scores will be combined with the scores of a separate and entirely new judging panel.
